When you are traveling in the Mississippi River
Valley, we invite you to visit the Goodhue County
Historical Society in Red Wing, Minnesota. Whether
you are interested in pottery or shoes, archaeology
or immigration, you will find something of interest
for the whole family.
Step back in time when you
view pre-historic artifacts in the archaeology room.
Sit in a desk in the rural schoolroom and
imagine what it was like to be a student in the
early 1900s. See if you can identify a use for the
many tools displayed in the agricultural room. Learn
about the discovery of "puffed grains" by a local
inventor and much more.
Genealogists, scholars, and students alike can discover
a wealth of resources in our research library. Our
computerized database makes it possible to find
information on your ancestors. Our collection also
includes more than 16,000 historic photographs,
which may be reproduced on request.
A wide variety of programs, exhibits, and events
are offered regularly. D.A.S.H., a history program
for middle-school students, and Multicultural Day
Camp are offered annually. Tours can be arranged
for groups of children or adults. The county's history
comes alive in the pages of our quarterly journal,
Goodhue County Historical News, which is a benefit
of membership.
Our museum store offers educational toys, children's
books, jewelry, postcards, note cards, and other
gifts related to county history as well as a wealth
of excellent adult books, many of them written by
local authors.
Please join us in preserving history!
